SHU Zhiding
2023, (4): 5-17.
Abstract(273) HTML (133) PDF(50)
Abstract:
Marx completed the innovation of educational theory. This is one of the topics that need to be paid attention to in the study and interpretation of Marx's educational theory. Marx lived in the era of modernity enlightenment and widely penetrated all fields of social life. The scientific knowledge and technological development promoted the industrial revolution and social progress. Yet the development of productive forces created conditions for the bourgeois revolution, and also brought the problems of modernity and capital civilization. Under the conditions, Marx studied political, economic, philosophical and other scholarly works to develop the historical materialism theory of the development of human society, and to construct the educational theory in resisting modernity and capital risks that reflected the historical dimension of the construction of educational theory.
Navigating through Hypothetical and Existential Worlds: Revisiting the Issue of "Assumptions" and "Survival" in Pedagogy
CHEN Dong
2023, (4): 18-25.
Abstract(150) HTML (120) PDF(50)
Abstract:
In the field of pedagogy, there are two types of worlds, the "hypothetical world" and the "existential world", which essentially reflect the duality between the ideal and the realistic nature of education. While the two are not completely separate, they do not completely overlap either. Arguing that man survives in a "hypothetical world" and emphasizing the precedence of "hypothesis" to "survival" does not necessarily refute the ontological and supportive role of "survival" to "hypothesis" as emphasized by the hypothesis of man in a "world of survival", and vice versa. From the three dimensions of daily judgment, practical action and research activities, "hypothesis" and "survival" each have their own heights and limits. Just as "hypothesis" is not enough to determine "survival", and "survival" is also not enough to determine "hypothesis". All we can be sure of is that we are in a "hypothetical world" when we "assume" and in a "world of existence" when we "survive". The human being, as the subject of education, can and must move between these two worlds.
Can After-school Services Contribute to the Quality and Equality of Education: The Progress and Enlightenment of Foreign Research on Causal Inference
ZHANG Wenwen, LI Ting, CHEN Ran
2023, (4): 26-35.
Abstract(296) HTML (426) PDF(86)
Abstract:
Extended after-school service is an important part of the "double reduction" policy, but how to plan and implement after-school service and its relationship with the quality and equity of basic education is still unclear. This study introduces the policies and measures of after-school service extending school hours abroad, introduces the framework of anti-practical class comparative analysis in foreign studies to identify the effect of after-school service quality and equity, and reviews the relevant research methods and findings. This study points out that the research based on the framework of the anti-practical class comparative analysis shows that after-school service measures to extend school hours are conducive to the quality and equitable development of basic education, especially to the academic achievement of lower-class children. On the basis of foreign research on causal inference, this study further discusses the implications of its analysis framework and research conclusions for the current research and implementation of "double reduction" policy.
Drifting in Beijing: Neoliberal Governmentality and the Subjectivity of Tutors in Tutorial Centers
PAN Dongdong, ZHOU Yisu
2023, (4): 36-46.
Abstract(268) HTML (182) PDF(55)
Abstract:
Drawing on Foucault's idea of neoliberal governmentality as a theoretical perspective, this paper discusses the impact of China's household registration (hukou) system on tutors through interviews with 26 tutors who are not registered in Beijing. The study finds that the reasons why tutors choose to drift in Beijing are mainly due to the consideration of income and career development opportunities. In their eyes, Beijing symbolizes youth and hard work, advancement and cutting-edge, and fairness. They do not pursue and value Beijing hukou excessively but recognize that they can obtain a good life by their own ability and effort. Their discourse presents characteristics of typical ability first and self-attribution rather than institutional attribution. However, with the development of work and the growth of age, they gradually feel the instability of working in tutorial centers and great pressure of drifting. Their choice of being tutors appears as a restricted and adaptive free choice. They present an image of a restricted entrepreneur, a paradoxical semi-citizen identity and a drifting subject.
The Target System and Implementation Deviation of the "Double Reduction" Policy: Overlapping Effects of Multiple Policy Objectives
YU Hui, CHEN Xinyu
2023, (4): 47-58.
Abstract(391) HTML (519) PDF(69)
Abstract:
The implementation of the "double reduction" policy has achieved significant effects in the past two years, yet its actual implementation effect still deviates from expectations. This study constructs an analytical framework of the policy implementation deviation based on the theoretical perspective of the overlapping effects of multiple policy objectives. It examines the hierarchical system of policy objectives of "double reduction" based on theoretical resources of the overlapping impact of multiple policy aims. It sorts out three types of deviation in the policy implementation, including symbolic execution, selective execution, and mechanical execution. Based on the analysis of the overlapping influence mechanism of coordination and conflicts among multiple policy objectives, the formation mechanisms of the three types of implementation deviation phenomena have been revealed. It then analyzes the in-depth impetuses for the deviations in the implementation of the "double reduction" policy aims. To achieve the aims of the "double reduction" policy, it is important to balance diverse interests and demands, to focus on overall policy objectives, to increase support for implementation resources, and to strengthen policy implementation supervision.

2023, (4): 59-71.
Abstract(237) HTML (138) PDF(33)
Abstract:
Effective parent engagement can give full play to the strengths of home and the school, and jointly promote the growth of students. However, in reality, there are frequent conflicts in the process of home-school partnership and it is urgent to respond to the question of where the boundaries of parent engagement are. Therefore, based on the theory of boundary, the scale of parent's home-school partnership boundary management awareness was compiled through literature analysis and expert consultation. Through the reliability and validity analysis of the scale, it was concluded that the development and compilation of the scale are scientific and reasonable. At the same time, this study delved into the impact of family and social strata on the participation of parents in boundary management practices such as time, space, and interpersonal relationships, to further provide specific strategic guidance for parents in boundary management practices.

Employers also attach importance to the internship and practical experience of graduates. At the same time, employers in different industries and different enterprises sizes have different requirements for graduates' abilities. The employer's evaluation of graduates' ability is one of the important bases for higher education teaching reform in China.
The Development of "Nationalization" of Educational Funds of University from 1927 to 1937
XUE Guorui
2023, (4): 84-94.
Abstract(352) HTML (149) PDF(22)
Abstract:
As the material basis for maintaining the operation and development of universities, the structural changes of education funds reflect the change of the nature of universities to a great extent. During the period of Beijing government, the central financial crisis occurred frequently, and it was often difficult to allocate the education funds of national universities. Although national universities had the "name" of the state, they lacked the "reality" of funds. Since its trial implementation in 1927, the National University has been striving for the practice of the independent system of education funds, and the "reality" of funds has been improved. By the 1930s, with the continuous expansion of the ruling power of the Nanjing National Government and the increasing central finance, in addition to the continuous promotion of the "reality" of the existing national university education funds, local universities and private universities also gradually showed a tendency towards nationalization of funding sources. In the meantime, in the process of the financial investment of the national government, universities were also increasingly shaped by higher education policies, and their internal funding allocation was constantly inclined to practical and scientific, and assumed the responsibilities of national universities in the construction and development of the nation-state and other aspects.

YANG Xinxiao, CHEN Dianbing
2023, (4): 95-104.
Abstract(271) HTML (138) PDF(38)
Abstract:
The modernization of educational governance ability has become the core issue and key demand in the process of educational reform and development of all countries and international organizations. Taking "the value orientation and path of the OECD education governance" as the research question and following the basic steps of qualitative research data analysis, this study selected its latest official research reports as the research material and object to analyze the policy text, and interpreted its value orientation and implementation path of the education governance. The results of this research indicated that the OECD presents the basic value orientation of "evidence-based governance, fairness and justice, sustainable development and multiple co-governance" in the process of educational governance. Concerning its governance path, the OECD mainly guides the policymakers and practitioners to realize the modernization of educational governance capacity through "participatory debate, multiple accountability, and continuous assessment".
The Characteristics of Space Production of Cross-border Education in the Context of Globalization
YANG Xin
2023, (4): 105-112.
Abstract(263) HTML (98) PDF(16)
Abstract:
The globalization of economy, politics and culture has given birth to the production of cross-border educational space. Under the framework of Lefebvre's theory of space production, cross-border education space production includes three structures: physical space, mental space and social space. Space production of cross-border education has experienced three stages: the heterogeneity of mental space production and the convergence of social space production in the era of student mobility; the capitalization the space production of cross-border education in the era of project mobility, and realizing the reproduction of educational space through space restoration; cross-border education in the era of education hub tries to reconstruct the global education space. Cross-border education in the era of student and project mobility reflected the injustice of space production to a certain extent, and only by reconstructing the global order of cross-border educational space can the space production of cross-border education return to publicity and public welfare, and can the unjust crisis of capitalist space production be prevented.
