The Tradition and Influence of Valedictorian and Salutatorian in American Universities

摘要

摘要: 卓越拔尖人才的培养是一项系统工程，除了科学的培养方案和充足的资源支持之外，还应当增强对优秀学生的价值引导，以增进其身份认同，激发其社会责任感。在美国，选拔最优秀的毕业生在毕业典礼上致辞，并授予学生时代的最高荣誉头衔——致辞毕业生，是许多高校的常见做法。致辞毕业生作为一种荣誉象征，对优秀学生发挥了价值引领与激励作用，产生了广泛的社会影响与教育意义。探讨美国致辞毕业生称号的起源与含义、地位与角色、选拔标准与演说内容，对我国卓越拔尖人才的培养有重要的启发意义。

Abstract: The cultivation of outstanding and top-notch talents is a systematic project. In addition to the scientific training programs and sufficient resource support, we should also strengthen the value guidance for outstanding students, so as to enhance their identity and stimulate their sense of social responsibility. In the United States (U. S.), it is a common practice for many colleges and universities to select the best graduates to deliver a commencement address and confer them the highest honorary title of their student life:Valedictorian and Salutatorian. As a symbol of honor, Valedictorian and Salutatorian play an important role in value guidance and as an incentive for outstanding students, and have a wide range of social impact and educational significance. For cultivation of outstanding and top-notch talents in our country, it is of great significance to explore the origin and meaning of the title of "Valedictorian and Salutatorian" in the U. S., as well as their status and role, selection criteria, and speech content.
